The
purpose of this page and to a larger extent this web site is to promote
a youth centered approach to the organization and instruction of youth
sports. At DYS, special emphasis is placed on the promotion of the game
of soccer as a confidence builder, and a family oriented activity that
provides for familial bonding, team work, and friendships.
As
parents, adhering to the following guidelines would go a long way in
making you and your child's soccer experience a pleasant and enjoyable
one.
- Always
encourage your child, win or lose.
- Do
not set unrealistic goals for you and your child. You should be realistic
of their physical ability.
- Do
not live your athletic past or lack thereof through your child.
-
Respect your child's opponents and cheer good play on the field.
- Always
provide a safe environment for your child to play soccer by providing
them with the right equipment.
- Encourage
your child and the other children on the team by being their best
fan and cheerleader.
-
Be a positive role model. Do not use foul or abusive language during
games.
- Leave
the coaching to the coaches. Let them be free to do their job. Do
not become an 'armchair quarterback' by coaching on the sidelines.
Though your child's coach may not be a world renowned coach, remember
that that they are volunteers who are giving their time and effort
and need to be encouraged not discouraged by your antics.
- Be
supportive of the coaches and communicate openly with them if you
disagree with their approach.
-
Be respectful and supportive of the referees and other game officials.
- Always
remember it is only a game, have fun. Soccer should not be larger
than life for you. Do not spoil the fun for your kid. Let your child
know that win or lose, you love them and are proud of their performance
on the field.
